For those that belong to an HOA...the following bill sounds wonderful.

SB1007 also requires HOAs to prove how they have been SPENDING THE MONEY collected from homeowners. Too often, HOAs “cry poor” and claim they need to jack up assessments without proving costs have increased. Under Menjivar’s bill, HOAs have to show that increases in regular assessments are truly needed.
Homeowners are sinking under increases in regular assessments, special assessments, and emergency assessments. One Orange County HOA raised regular assessments TWICE in one year to the 20% limit, then levied a $4800 special assessment, then two emergency assessments of $1500 and $1600 in 2.5 years.. The HOA has announced another “emergency” assessment of $1500 to be levied in October.
HOW the money is being spent hasn’t been disclosed.
SB1007 at least puts some sanity – and accountability – into regular assessments.
